How to get a good start in the food universe:
Essential products

To you who want to read the blog:
I would really like to share some of the things that worked really well for me when I started this whole journey with my son.
To start with, there is a lot of mashed food and porridge and everything that goes with it. And there are indeed some products that I think have been absolutely indispensable to make it as easy as possible for my son. So I really want to show you that. First of all, there are plenty of things you can use to freeze.
I made slightly larger portions, so there was a bit of variety. I always had some mashed potatoes with a bit of corn or some carrot puree. And then I divided it into different containers – ones where the portion fit really well to the amount babies can eat. They can't eat that much to start with. What I also really liked was that the bowls I served the food in had lids.
The lids can be put back on easily. They can withstand up to 220 degrees in the oven and microwave. So when you've made something, and the baby might not want to eat it right away, you just pop it in the fridge with the lid on. Out again when it's time to eat. Make it as easy as possible so you don't have to keep making porridge over and over again. You can really make a lot of corn porridge, oatmeal, millet porridge, and whatever other options there are multiple times.
Then there are also containers for mini portions – I have really appreciated those. Something that can be really good to help them taste different things is to make small portions with various purees. It could be a mix of fruits, vegetables, a bit of onion compote, or whatever it may be. I made a bit of variety and filled in different shades in the molds.
The smart thing is that you can easily pop the small portions out. Then you have something to add to the porridge that you've made sometimes. These are also great to have in the freezer if you want something cold in the summer. I liked it because you could have a new flavor every day. This way you had enough for many meals.
I took one day a week when I went into the kitchen and made different flavor variations – and then it all went in the freezer, so you had something ready without having to stand too much in the kitchen, and could instead focus on being with your little one.
There are also some starting spoons that I just think are a cool gimmick. I actually didn't have them myself – I didn't know they existed when I had my son. But it was really annoying to struggle with the spoon to get it properly into his mouth. You can actually get some spoons that you can fold yourself so that they fit the angle that you think is best.
And then there's food on the go:
There are some really good products you can take with you. Of course, there are the containers – I always had those with me along the way. One trip out of the fridge and into the bag. I liked that if it wasn't a ready-made puree pouch (and there are many good ones in supermarkets), you could use these reusable bags that you fill with your own puree. If there's anything left over, just put it in the bag – off on the go – then they'll also have some nice homemade food.
Then there are the spoons to attach to the food bags:
The cool thing about them is that they fit Cherub's own bags, but they actually also fit all the bags you can buy in, for example, REMA, Kvickly, and wherever else you shop for your puree pouches. They screw on easily. When you press on the bag, a little bit of food comes out through a small hole in the spoon – and then you can easily feed the baby without making a mess. This way you avoid having to deal with things when you're out.
Whether it's a playdate in the mom group or a trip with friends – this solution is super easy. It comes with a container that you can just put back in so it doesn't get messy in the bag. I loved it. This was one of the best impulse buys I made in terms of food on the go when I started with spoon feeding for my baby.
There are plenty of things you can buy, and you can quickly spend a fortune. If I am to recommend something, it's to think about how you can make it as easy as possible for yourself. I really wanted to make homemade food for my son – and there are also many good ready-made meals that I used as well. Sometimes we just need to remember that the easy solution is perfectly fine. It gives you a breather and allows for more presence with the baby.
But if you have the desire and energy, then invest in some good basics so you don't have to stand in the kitchen all the time. This way, you can make a lot of delicious food that both you and your baby can enjoy together.
That was just a bit of what I wanted to share. If you have any questions – there are so many products in the food universe out there – please feel free to reach out to me.
